The Nilgiris district is close to Gudalur. There is a famous Shiva Temple Here. Although there is a separate crematorium for Muslims. In 1982, some Muslims planned to bury the body of a Muslim named Ahmed Kutty at the temple site. This created a tense situation .The temple committee called on the political parties to resolve the temple issue. The Hindu Front rallied as no party came forward.
In 1984, the then state president Ayya Thanulinga Nadar promised to inspect the problem area and make necessary arrangements. Protest posters and demonstrations were held across Tamil Nadu on behalf of the Hindu Front movement to attract the attention of the government. The Gnanaratha Yatra was organized on behalf of the Hindu Front in the Nilgiris district from the 20th to the 28th of 1983 to defeat this unjust act. The police stopped the chariot from entering the Erumadu area as there was a mosque on the way to the Erumadu Shiva temple.
Against this, the Hindu Front and RSS leaders rallied the Hindu people for 3 days in a row and brought the chariot to the Erumadu Shiva Temple and staged a huge event. As a result, 57 people were arrested and imprisoned in Coimbatore. Following this, Veera Thuravi Ramagopalan came directly to the area at various times and carried out struggles.
Veera Thuravi Rama Gopalan went on to insist that the wall built near the temple was a symbol of humiliation. The Hindu people removed that symbol of humiliation. As a result of such a series of struggles, in 2000 the then District Collector measured and allotted 42 cents of the land owned by the temple and made it his own. The government built a wall in the area where the Islamists were burning to prevent them from occupying the temple land. Due to this the Hindu Front began to grow and strengthen in the Nilgiris district.
